canchero is a diary for the matches you attend. Your entries belong to you. The app shows no adverts, sells no data and contains no analytics or tracking services.
Who is responsible
Elias Sprunger, pan_mundial, Basel, Switzerland
Contact: hinchario@panmundial.art
Without an account, everything stays on your device
The app stores matches, grounds, ratings, notes, who you went with, ticket prices, photos, your profile name and your settings on your device only. We have no access to them.
Backups and exports are only created when you start them. You decide where you save or send them.
With an account: backup and sync
When you sign in, canchero uses Google's Firebase service (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) as a data processor.
- Sign-in (Firebase Authentication): your email address and password (stored only in encrypted form) or, when you sign in with Google, the name, email address and profile picture link of your Google account. In addition, technical details such as IP address and device type, which Google uses to prevent abuse. If you sign in with Apple on an iPhone, we receive from Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Ireland) an identifier, your email address or a relay address forwarded by Apple and, the first time, your name if you choose to share it. If you delete your account, we also revoke the connection to Apple. This service runs in data centres in the USA. Google keeps IP addresses there for a few weeks.
- Collection (Cloud Firestore): your matches and grounds with every field you fill in, including notes and the names of the people you went with. This data is stored in Zurich (region europe-west6).
- Photos are not uploaded. They stay on your device.
- Matches for everyone (match planner): If you add an upcoming match for everyone, Firestore stores the date, kick-off, teams, competition, ground with town, country and coordinates, and your account identifier (no name or email address). Everyone using canchero can see these entries. Only you can change or delete them.
- Ground suggestions (signed in only): the "Suggest a ground" form goes to a Google Apps Script in canchero's Google account (Google LLC, USA). It checks your sign-in with Firebase, emails your details (name, town, country, coordinates, home teams, capacity, note), the app version and your account identifier and email address to the canchero team and stores them in a spreadsheet (Google Sheets), so we can follow up and check them. Accepted details go into the directory without any link to you. We delete suggestions on request.
- Reports (match planner): if you report a match someone else added, the app hides it on your device. When you are signed in, the report reaches us through the same Apps Script: the reason, the match details, the identifier of the account that added it, and your account identifier and email address. We check it and delete wrong or inappropriate entries.
- Hopper Index (only if you turn on "Contribute to the Hopper Index"): per ground, the average of your ground ratings from the last five years (food & drink, stands & atmosphere, facilities, getting there), the number of visits and the ground identifier (Wikidata or directory). Your contribution is stored privately under your account and only you can read it. The only public data is a total per ground across all contributions (number of people, sum and count of values per category), with no account identifiers. Matches, match ratings, notes and names are not transferred. Turning it off removes your contribution and subtracts it from the total.
For transfers to the USA, Google relies on the Swiss-U.S. and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and on standard contractual clauses.
As the operator of canchero, we could technically access the cloud data. We only do so if you ask us to, if it is needed to fix a technical fault or if the law requires it.
Crash reports and abuse protection
These two Firebase services also run without an account:
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): if the app crashes or hits a serious error, it sends a technical report to Google: where in the code the error happened, app version, device model, operating system, free memory, time and a random installation identifier. Your matches, notes, photos, location and name are not included. Google keeps the reports for 90 days, in the USA. You can turn off "Send crash reports" under Profile → About canchero.
- App Check: so that only the real canchero app can access the cloud, the app checks with Google (Play Integrity, Android) or Apple (App Attest, iPhone) at start-up that it is unmodified and running on a real device. Technical details about the device and app go to Google or Apple, but no content from the app.
Map, location, fixtures and ground photos
- Map images: when you open the grounds map, the app loads map images from CARTO (CartoDB Inc., USA) based on OpenStreetMap. CARTO receives your IP address and the map area shown.
- Location: "Nearby" and "Check in" ask for your location. It is only used on your device to work out distances and is not sent, unless you use the ground search when checking in (next point). If you create a new ground when checking in, it takes your location as its coordinates; these are stored like the rest of the ground's details, and in the cloud too if you have an account.
- Ground search when checking in: if you tap "Search grounds in OpenStreetMap", the app sends your location, rounded to about 100 m, to the Overpass API (FOSSGIS e.V., Germany) to find football grounds nearby, and to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom) to work out the town and country. Both also receive your IP address.
- Ground photos and club logos: when you open a ground that has a freely licensed photo, or the app shows a team with a public-domain logo, it loads the photo or logo from Wikimedia Commons (Wikimedia Foundation, USA) and keeps it on your device. Wikimedia receives your IP address and which file is loaded. The author and licence are shown below the photo. Logos can be switched off for all teams in the club badge settings. Logos you choose yourself stay on your device and are not backed up or uploaded.
- Fixtures: "Fixtures" when adding a match, "Add a past season", "Nearby" and the match planner load fixtures from the openfootball project and the list of internationals (martj42/international_results) via GitHub (GitHub Inc., USA, a Microsoft company). GitHub receives your IP address and which league and season is loaded, but not your location or the team you picked.
- Ticket scan: Google's ML Kit recognises the text on a ticket photo directly on your device. The photo and the recognised text do not leave the device. ML Kit sends Google information about the performance and use of text recognition (without image or text content) and may download updates.
- Directions, Google Maps and fixtures: these buttons open Google Maps or Google Search with the ground or team name. From then on, Google's terms apply.
All of this only happens when you use these features. The fonts and the directory of grounds, clubs and leagues (from Wikidata) are included in the app and are not loaded from the internet.
Purpose and legal basis
We only process data to provide the app's features: sign-in, backup, sync between your devices, the map, fixtures, ground photos, club logos and ground search, plus crash reports and App Check to keep the app stable and the cloud protected from abuse. This is done in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). For users in the EU and the UK, it is based on the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and on our legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
How long data is kept
- On your device: until you delete entries or uninstall the app.
- In the cloud: until you delete your account. "Delete account" removes your matches, grounds, match planner entries and Hopper Index contributions from Firestore and then your account. Google deletes copies in its backup systems within 180 days.
- Crash reports: 90 days. Ground suggestions and reports: until they are dealt with, then at most one year.
- If you delete a single match while signed in, a deletion note without content (only an identifier and a time) remains in the cloud so that the deletion also reaches your other devices.
Information about other people
Under "Went with" and in notes you can enter other people's names. With an account, these are backed up too. Only enter what the people concerned are happy with. First names or nicknames are enough.
Your rights
You can ask at any time what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and receive a copy. Much of this works directly in the app: edit and delete entries, export a backup, delete your account. For anything else, write to hinchario@panmundial.art.
If you feel we are not handling your data correctly, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or to the data protection authority in your country.
Changes
If what the app does with data changes, we will update this statement and the date at the top.

Responsable
Elias Sprunger, pan_mundial, Basilea, Suiza
Contacto: hinchario@panmundial.art
- Ubicación: «Cerca» y «Check-in» te piden tu ubicación.
